What we’ve learned!
With the recreational approval of cannabis use in California, The Boulevard Dispensary was one of three facilities to gain approval in the city of Lemon Grove, San Diego County. With a $9 million investment, The Boulevard’s 26 month goal was to attain 7% of the market cap by tapping into the predicted $82 million county annual revenue. The 18,000 square foot facility was designed to accommodate patients with a new approach to customer experience. The Boulevard opted for a “red carpet” vibe, by housing premium flowers, edibles, tinctures, and much more with a state-of-the-art automation approach in patient services. The Boulevard is focusing on patients of all genders and demographics to provide an alternative medical prescription use.
Solutions we’ve incorporated
The naming process for The Boulevard Dispensary was inspired by the traditional ideology of obtaining products the old school way: hooking up with your connection “around the corner, down the boulevard.” The icon was custom-designed to symbolize the cannabis leaf, while the typefont approach choice reflected a fun, Netherlander twist with curves. The colors within the green family were chosen to represent the overall product and industry.

ParkWest Solutions developed The Boulevard Dispensary’s site on WordPress and used the Avada theme to design it. We chose the Avada theme primarily due to its extensive customizable usage of design, layout, function, and responsiveness to mobile devices, tablets, and integration of third party applications. The site was completely custom-designed with the buildout focused on the shopping experience for patients. WooCommerce was an intricate part of the eCommerce experience, along with HubSpot marketing tools for ongoing efforts. We also combined several automations for lead generation and user functionality towards pre-order for product pick-up. The website currently houses 67 pages and five funnel pages for marketing initiatives and actions.
Although the cannabis space became recreationally legal in 2019, the industry has still a lot of challenges to overcome. After a thorough audit process, we came to realize that the most common cannabis-related keywords have been leveraged for years preceding the legalization of marijuana. Rather than solely focusing our efforts on ranking for primary keywords that placed extremely high on the index, we chose to work with a hybrid approach. We utilized a series of long-tail keywords and testimonials/reviews, as well as publishing weekly articles consisting of 2200+ word counts, and an aggregated back-linking process that helped with ranking at a much a quicker turn-around than a traditional approach.
